WILLMAR -- A meeting to discuss the past and future of Minnesota and Kandiyohi County will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in the community room at the Kandiyohi County Health and Human Services Center.

Called "Plan for Our Future: Many Voices -- One Minnesota," the forum is part of the 150th anniversary of Minnesota and Kandiyohi County.

Information from the meeting in Willmar, as well as similar ones being held across the state, will focus on how to ensure a thriving, innovative future for all Minnesotans and will be used for the sesquicentennial celebration next year.

Elected officials and residents from across the county are invited to attend the meeting to provide input.

Matt Johnson, from the Mid-Minnesota Development Commission, who will facilitate the meeting, said three basic questions will be asked.

n What do we want the future to be like for the next generation?

n What are the "got-to-deal-with" issues if we're going to make that future real?

n What would you like to tell Minnesotans 50 years from now -- at the state's bicentennial -- that you are personally working on today to ensure they have the same or better quality of life you have now?

The meeting will give the public an "opportunity to say what's on their mind," to form a "snapshot" of the state today that will make a difference for the next 50 years, said Johnson.

Meetings that have already been held around the state have shown that the top issues are the environment and diversity in Minnesota.

Those who are unable to attend the meeting can provide their input through an online survey and discussion group at the Sesquicentennial Commission's Web Site: www.mn150years.org .
