LONG PRAIRIE - Dana Dierkhising of Melrose won the all-around title and teammate Ashley Wehlage was second as the Dutchmen won their 16th straight West Central Conference gymnastics title Saturday.
Melrose amassed 142.075 points and won the meet much easier than expected. New London-Spicer, which scored over 142 recently, was expected to contend. But the Wildcats (136.8) finished third behind Benson/KMS/Lac qui Parle Valley (137.925).
Dierkhising won vault, uneven bars and floor exercise and was third on the balance beam to compile a 37.0 all-around score. Wehlage won balance beam and finished with a 36.075.
Carrie Hanson of BKMSLQPV was third all-around with a 35.975. BKMSLQPV had three other all-around finishes in the top 10 with Brittany Johnson fifth, Jessica Ascheman sixth and Michelle Hanson seventh. Carrie Hanson was second on vault and second on bars. Ascheman was fourth on beam.
Courtney Edwards of New London-Spicer was eighth and Jacki Imdieke 10th. Wendy Toops of NLS was second on floor exercise and Alexa Score was fourth. Gina Bruns was fourth on bars.
