WILLMAR -- Merlin John Meierhofer, 87, of Willmar died Tuesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 4:30 and rosary at 6:30, in Willmar and for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
He was born Dec. 11, 1919, in Watkins, to Joseph and Irene (McMakin) Meierhofer. He was raised in the Watkins area and graduated from Kimball High School. He worked for his parents in Watkins. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Jeanette Grossman on June 27, 1946, in Cold Spring. They lived in Maple Lake, where he worked for Progressive Dairy. He was a traveling salesman for a few years prior to owning and operating Midway Grocery in Sauk Rapids. They lived in Prescott, Ariz., from 1988 to 1990, when they moved to Willmar.
He was a cub master in Maple Lake, member of Lions, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion, where he had served as past commander. He has been a member of Church of St. Mary and American Legion Post 167, both in Willmar.
He is survived by his wife; children: Thomas (and Joanne) Meierhofer of Willmar, Daniel (and Sandra) Meierhofer of College Park, Ga., Mary (and G. John) Larson of Watertown, S.D., Joan (and Paul) Blair of Mesa, Ariz., John (and Teresa) Meierhofer of Lino Lakes; seven grandchildren; siblings: Maynard (and Virginia) Meierhofer of Ripon, Wis.; Jo Ann Round of Monticello and Gene (and Cindy) Meierhofer of Belgrade.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
