Minn. man falls out of wheelchair in cold, dies

SEBEKA, Minn. (AP) -- Authorities are investigating how a paraplegic man died after reportedly falling out of his wheelchair and being found in the cold near Sebeka.

SEBEKA, Minn. (AP) -- Authorities are investigating how a paraplegic man died after reportedly falling out of his wheelchair and being found in the cold near Sebeka.

The Wadena County Sheriff's Office says 39-year-old Michael Lee Johnson of Sebeka was found on the ground, unresponsive, and out of his wheelchair around 8 a.m. Tuesday by his personal care attendant.

KSAX-TV of Alexandria reports Johnson was taken to Tri-County Hospital with extreme hypothermia and a body temperature in the 70s.

An autopsy was being performed.

The National Weather Service says the temperature at the Wadena airport was 5 above zero at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
