Minnesota State, Mankato said Wednesday that it will apply for membership in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference beginning with the 2008-2009 athletic season.
The university wants to join the NSIC because its current athletic league, the North Central Conference, will disband after the 2007-2008 season.
In a statement, University President Richard Davenport said school officials concluded the NSIC was the best choice after looking at other options.
