ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Normal temperatures and below-average precipitation allowed Minnesota small-grain farmers to make steady harvest progress this past week.
In its weekly crop progress and conditions report for Minnesota, the Agriculture Department said today that spring wheat was 89 percent harvested as of Sunday, compared with 14 percent last year and 57 percent for the five-year average. The barley and oat harvests are both 95 percent complete.
Crop conditions were generally unchanged from a week earlier. Statewide, 90 percent of field corn was in good or excellent condition. Soybeans were rated 88 percent in good or excellent condition.
The sweet corn harvest is 46 percent complete.
