ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Historical Society, its museums, historic sites and library will reopen to the public on Saturday following the state of Minnesota government shutdown.
All programs scheduled beginning Saturday will resume as initially planned. Hours of operation and special programs are outlined at www.mnhs.org . This reopening schedule is contingent upon the passage of a budget bill by the legislature and signing by the Governor.
The Minnesota Historical Society was closed during the state shutdown and unable to serve over 40,000 visitors during that time period. Funding from the state comprises more than half of the Society's operating budget.
Historical sites in this region to re-open include: Birch Coulee Battlefield, Morton; Fort Ridgely, Fairfax; Lac qui Parle Mission, Watson; and Lower Sioux Agency, Morton.
