WILLMAR -- Large, white 'Xs' will be appearing on the ground in the area along Minnesota Highway 7 from Montevideo to Appleton, and residents in the area are being asked to leave them undisturbed.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation will be conducting aerial mapping of Highway 7 from Highway 29 in Montevideo to Highway 59 in Appleton, and on Highway 12, one half mile east and west of the junction with the Highway 23/71 Bypass. This mapping will create a photo record of the existing infrastructure and landscape which will be used to plan future improvements, according to Mn/DOT.
Mn/DOT paints or places large white X target marks on the ground. A survey crew then records the coordinate position and elevation of the targets. The targets are temporary and will be removed when the photography is completed.
The aerial flights are scheduled to begin the first part of April, but may be delayed if clouds restrict visibility.
