WILLMAR - The heavy rain predicted this week could cause problems for travelers in west central and southwest Minnesota.
Because flash flooding is difficult to predict, the Minnesota Department of Transportation said roads may be closed or restricted without warning.
They also advise motorists to watch for cones and barrels on the roadways, which indicate potential hazards.
Travelers are warned not to drive around barricades or into flooded areas.
Heavy rain is forecast for the region today through Thursday.
According to MnDOT, six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars, causing loss of control and possible stalling.
A foot of water will float many vehicles and two feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles, including sport utility vehicles and pickups.
Travelers can find information about current road conditions, closures and detours at 511mn.org.
