WILLMAR -- The Minnesota Department of Transportation says the detour for the resurfacing project on U.S. Highway 12 near the Willmar Bypass will be removed tonight as the road opens to allow traffic through the work zone.
Work continues on the project as crews excavate and reconstruct the road, add a right turn lane at Seventh Street Southwest and make American Accessibility Act (ADA) improvements from Sixth Street Southeast to Lakeland Drive.
Stage 2 of the project goes into effect on Thursday when Highway 23 ramps on the south side of the project close to traffic. Motorists will follow a signed detour on Kandiyohi County Road 9 to Willmar Avenue.
MnDOT urges motorists to slow down and always drive with caution in a work zone.
The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-November, weather permitting.
