Monarch butterflies and zinnias go together like October and baseball.

On the first day of the 10th month, monarchs zeroed in on a patch of the many-colored flower in southwest Willmar. While this is a bumper year for zinnias, the monarch continues to decline due to the eradication of milkweed on the edges of crop fields sprayed with herbicides.
