VIROQUA, Wis. -- A seven-run inning for Kansas City knocked Montevideo out of the Midwest National Division II Legion Baseball tournament Friday.
A day after losing to Langdon, N.D., in a 9-8 heartbreaker, Post 59 fell into an 11-0 hole after 4½ innings, a deficit too large to overcome.
Kansas City (33-9) scored a pair of runs in both the second and third innings, then walloped Montevideo starting pitcher Tyler Kanten for seven runs in the fourth.
Montevideo (20-8) followed it with a big inning, plating five runs. Mike Tanhoff led off the inning with a single and Jon Altena was hit by a pitch. Mike Hinde then singled in a run before Jon Schmit belted a three-run homer to left field.
Tanhoff later singled in the same inning, driving home the fifth run after Montevideo loaded the bases on a walk and singles by Karels and Gallagher.

But single runs in the fifth and sixth were not enough for Montevideo.
Tanhoff finished 3-for-3 with an RBI for Montevideo, which collected 10 hits. Gallagher, Hinde and Karels had two hits each.
"We hit the ball well in the two games," said Montevideo coach Jeff Gallagher. "We ended up batting .384 as a team."
Montevideo hit .422 at the state tournament in Willmar.
"I think we represented the state well," Gallagher added. "We proved we are an exceptionally talented team."
James Gallagher, a second baseman/shortstop, was named to the All-Tournament team after going 6-for-9. He was 7-for-10 in the state tournament.
Kanten pitched the first 32/3 innings, striking out four and walking two. Schmit finished the game, allowing just two hits.
Kansas City played in the late elimination game Friday, but results were not available at press time.
