MONTEVIDEO -- Joel Filberto Medellin, 29, of Montevideo, will serve 41 months in prison for his conviction in the beating and robbery of a man in a bathroom at Inn Like Flynn's in Montevideo.
District Judge David Mennis sentenced Medellin in district court in Montevideo on Wednesday. Medellin had pleaded guilty Sept. 16 to a felony charge of first-degree aggravated robbery.
Medellin is alleged to have beaten and robbed a man of $200 cash and a Blackberry cell phone during a June 26 incident.
The complaint alleges Medellin acted with help from Victor Daniel Medina, 21, also of Montevideo. Medina allegedly stood outside the bathroom and acted as a lookout while the assault and robbery occurred.
Medina is currently being held on $750,000 bail while facing charges of first- and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon for allegedly stabbing three people in a Sept 4 incident in a parking lot behind Inn Like Flynn's. He also faces charge of aiding and abetting assault, second- and third-degree and tampering with a witness for the June 26 incident involving Medellin. The complaint alleges that after the robbery and assault in the bathroom, Medina and Medellin assaulted another man who had voiced his displeasure about what had happened.

Medina is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 26. on the assault charges. A 31-year-old man was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center for knife wounds he suffered to the stomach. Two women, ages 22 and 31, also suffered wounds to their stomachs and were treated at Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital and Medical Clinic. One of the women required surgery.
