Montevideo woman seriously hurt in Highway 23 crash

Jennifer Labatt suffered life-threatening injuries as a passenger in a vehicle that collided with a semi Tuesday on Highway 23 in Lyon County.

MARSHALL — A 22-year-old Montevideo woman suffered life-threatening injuries as a passenger in a vehicle that collided with a semitractor at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday on state Highway 23 near the intersection with state Highway 91 in Lyon County .

The Minnesota State Patrol reported that Jennifer Jade Labatt was injured in an accident involving the 2015 Chrysler 200, in which she was a passenger, and a 2007 Peterbilt semi. She was transported to Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center.

The Chrysler, driven by Xaiveor Mikhail West, 21, of Granite Falls , was northbound on Highway 23. The Peterbilt, driven by Kody Dean Poeckes, 26, of Sioux Center, Iowa, was southbound when the two vehicles collided.

West was transported to Avera Marshall with non-life-threatening injuries. Poeckes was not injured.


All of the parties were wearing seat belts and alcohol was not a factor, according to the Minnesota State Patrol report.

Balaton Fire and Ambulance, Russell Fire and First Responders, Tyler Ambulance, North Memorial Ambulance and Lyon County Sheriff's Office also responded.
