WILLMAR - Three new cases of bird flu were reported Wednesday on Minnesota farms, bringing the total number to 97 poultry farms affected by the deadly H5N2 avian influenza virus.
The Minnesota Board of Animal Health said the latest cases include commercial turkey farms in Kandiyohi, Meeker and Brown counties that have presumptive positive flocks.
There are now 37 commercial turkey farms affected by the disease in Kandiyohi County, which is more than any other county in the state.
Meeker County now has 10 cases and Brown County registered its second case.
More than 8 million turkeys and chickens have been affected, but that figure does not include the nine new flocks that were reported this week.
