Morris outslugs ACGC

GROVE CITY -- Morris clinched a share of the West Central South Conference football title with a 34-31 win over Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Wednesday.

Morris quarterback Taylor Witt scored a one-yard touchdown with less than two minutes to go to put the Tigers (6-1, 6-2) ahead.

The first half was an offensive slugfest, with each team scoring four touchdowns. Morris scored the first touchdown on a Craig Knochenmus nine-yard catch from Witt, then the teams traded scores until ACGC's Nic Leither scored two straight times in the second quarter, both on one-yard runs.

The Tigers bogged down offensively for a stretch in the second quarter, with the Falcons picking off three Witt passes, including two on consecutive plays. But Morris ended the half with a Tony Schultz 38-yard pass play that put the Tigers ahead, 26-25.

ACGC's A.J. Frederiksen put the Falcons ahead in the fourth quarter on a two-yard run.

Witt completed 20-of-39 passes for 300 yards, with Brent Anderson catching eight passes for 86 yards.

Fredriksen rushed 41 times for 210 yards in the loss.
