MADISON -- Muriel Violet Moen, 98, of Madison died Wednesday at the Madison Lutheran Home.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Borgund Lutheran Church in rural Madison. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday afternoon and evening at Zahrbock Funeral Home in Madison, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and prior to the service at the church on Monday.

She was born Jan. 7, 1908, in Cerro Gordo Township to Ole and Severina (Bothun) Mundahl. She attended rural school in District 6 and graduated from eighth grade. She graduated from Dawson High School in 1926 and the teachers normal school in Madison in 1927. She continued her education at St. Cloud Teachers College. She taught at rural schools in Lac qui Parle County for seven years.

She married Howard Moen on May 15, 1935. They farmed in Madison Township for 50 years. They moved into Madison in 1984.

She was a member of Borgund Lutheran Church, served in leadership roles in Sunday school, as a member of the building committee and other organizations at the church. She was active in Lac qui Parle home study groups, Lac qui Parle Horticultural Society, Famerettes, sewing clubs, Farm Bureau, and the Lakeside Hustlers.

She is survived by her daughters: Phyllis (and David) Stageberg of Willmar, Carolyn (and Richard) Jackson of River Falls, Wis.; seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996; and six siblings.
