GROVE CITY -- Willmar's offense struggled against Fargo-Moorhead's bigger defense, leading to a 28-8 loss in amateur football action Saturday.

The Mustangs (5-3), who lost to the Liberty 78-18 June 7 in Willmar, had a better day defensively against the high-powered Liberty attack.

They bent but didn't break often in the first half, foiling a Fargo-Moorhead drive by causing a fumble in the first quarter, then stopping the Liberty on fourth down twice in the first half.

But offensively, the Mustangs couldn't get anything going. Willmar was held to one first down -- a David Blom 23-yard run -- and gave up a safety in the second half.

The Mustangs were held to 22 total yards in the half and Fargo-Moorhead added two touchdowns for a 15-0 halftime lead.

Willmar's defense tightened in the second half and the offense picked up some rhythm in the fourth quarter as quarterback Jackson Illies led the team on its only scoring drive, which ended on a Blom run and a two-point pass conversion.
