WILLMAR - A Kandiyohi County Jail inmate who died Sunday has been identified as George Edward Washington, 56, of Willmar.
Sheriff Dan Hartog said Washington died after being found unresponsive Sunday afternoon.
Hartog did not indicate why Washington was incarcerated at the time of his death and his name no longer appears on the jail roster.
Correctional officers were conducting checks of the inmates when Washington shortly before 1:30 p.m. He was not breathing so correctional officers immediately began lifesaving measures, Hartog said.
The Willmar Ambulance Service also was called but paramedics were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead at the jail, Hartog said.

The Willmar Police Department assisted the Sheriff's Office and ambulance personnel at the scene.
The death is under investigation by the Sheriff's Department.
