MANKATO -- Nancy Ruth Strand Imes, 67, of Mankato, formerly of Wood Lake, died Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
The service will be at 2 p.m. today at Rock Valle Lutheran Church in rural Echo. Burial is in the Rock Valle Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service today at the church. Arrangements are with the Redwood Valley Funeral Home/Kulow Funeral Service.
She was born Oct. 28, 1940, in Clarissa to Oscar and Beatrice Strand. She graduated from the Clarissa High School in 1958 and from the Glenwood Hills School of Practical Nursing of Golden Valley in 1959. She worked at the Glenwood Hills Hospital, Northwest Bell Telephone Company and at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis.

She married Keith Imes on June 2, 1962. They lived on a farm near Wood Lake before settling on their farm in Sioux Agency Township. She worked at the Granite Falls School in 1973 to 1974 and at the Granite Falls Hospital from 1985 to 1989. She was the American/Rock Valle church secretary from 1989 to 1995. Keith died in 1995. She moved to Mankato in 1995 and worked at Mankato State University for almost five years. She retired in 2000.
She volunteered in the surgery lounge at the ISJ Hospital for a year. Then she volunteered at the Hospice Office in Mankato. She was a member of the Hilltop United Methodist Church of Mankato. She was in PTA, Music Mothers and a Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher and served a term as vice president of the Rock Valle Ladies Aid.
She is survived by her son: Kevin of Hastings; one sister: Elinor (and Lloyd) Duda of Brainerd; and one brother: Glenne (and Elaine) Strand of Menomonie, Wis.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, including two in infancy, and one sister.
