National Geographic to visit Mississippi River cities

BEMIDJI -- National Geographic wants to know what the best places of interest near the Mississippi River are, and they want the citizens of Minnesota river cities to help.

BEMIDJI - National Geographic wants to know what the best places of interest near the Mississippi River are, and they want the citizens of Minnesota river cities to help.
On Friday, representatives from National Geographic will hold a workshop at Bemidji City Hall in the Council Chambers that will focus on its geo-tourism website program.
“National Geographic has a geo-tourism arm that they're implementing nationally and so it's coming up to our area. They're holding workshops to invite the public, which will help select places for an online map,” said Cindy Habedank of Visit Bemidji.
National Geographic officials will also be visiting Brainerd, St. Cloud, Minneapolis and Lake City.
“It's good they're asking the public about the places that are special rather than them just picking the obvious ones,” Habedank said.
“This helps get more things from off the beaten path,” she said.
