OTTERTAIL, Minn. - Otter Tail County authorities arrested two men after they reportedly tried to break into a trailer park residence here just after 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

One of the men arrested was shot by the homeowner and treated at Perham Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries before being released later Thursday, Otter Tail County Sheriff Brian Schlueter said.

"According to the homeowner, they were trying to get in his window," Schlueter said. "He was scared they were breaking in and just feared for his own safety. That's why he took the action he did."

Paul F. Brandt of Ottertail reported two men breaking into his kitchen window and fired one shot from a small-caliber handgun at one of the men, according to The Fergus Falls Daily Journal.

Koal T. Shamp, 18, was shot in the hip. He and Michael Ray Eric Thomas Mason, 20, were arrested on suspicion of burglary after the incident, according to the newspaper.
