WILLMAR - A Nepali student spending the semester in Willmar has set up an online fund for donations for earthquake relief in his homeland.
The fund established by Suchit Khadge can be found at www.gofundme.com/helpnepalrise .
Khadge, 23, is from Kathmandu and is studying electrical engineering at St. Cloud State University. He is currently participating in a cooperative learning semester at Nova-Tech Engineering in Willmar.
His family survived the earthquake that devastated Nepal on April 25 and their house is still intact, with some minor cracks. But the quake claimed thousands of lives, caused untold damage, including many of the nation’s priceless historic temples and other buildings, and left countless people homeless.
Khadge is raising money and collecting donated equipment, especially medical supplies, to help with the most immediate needs in the aftermath of the quake. Within the next few weeks he plans to fly home, using his own money to pay for the trip, and bring the donations and supplies he collects in Minnesota back to Nepal.
One of his most immediate projects will be to set up light posts with electricity generators in locations where large numbers of people are living in the open.
Donations can be made online on the Help Nepal Rise page at gofundme.com. The page also can be shared through the social media.
