ORTONVILLE -- The new U.S. Highway 12 bridge over the Minnesota River opened on Wednesday morning, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Motorists traveling on Highway 12 will no longer encounter a detour between Ortonville and Big Stone City, S.D.
The new, wider bridge will improve safety for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.
The additional traffic on the detour route caused extra wear on city and county roads between Ortonville and Big Stone City, S.D. Crews will place a new layer of asphalt where needed on Friday, weather permitting, MnDOT said in a news release.
