New London-Spicer drubs Regal, 8-3

SPICER -- Darrin Ogdahl spun a three-hitter and Jeff Brooks doubled in two runs as New London-Spicer opened the County Line North Division playoffs with an 8-3 victory over Regal on Sunday.

Ogdahl walked five and struck out six in going the route.

Brooks, Ben Kulset, Seth Rosendahl and Jeremy Dirksen had two hits apiece for the Twins during a 10-hit attack.

Josh Krupke and Andy Hadley had the Regal hits.

On Friday, New London-Spicer will play at Atwater next Sunday. Regal will host Paynesville and Starbuck hosts Norway Lake-Sunburg.

In the South half on Wednesday night, Willmar will host Bird Island and Granite Falls will host Sacred Heart. Milroy and Raymond receive byes and will host games on Friday.

The Cornbelt North's No. 1 seed made short work of the Pirates. Jim Walker held Paynesville to six hits in a game that went seven innings.

Starbuck rang up four runs in the third on a two-run single by Zach Lagred, followed by a Mike Andreas double and an Andrew Olson single that each drove in a run.

Losing pitcher Ryan Hess singled and doubled off his counterpart.

The Stars (12-8) now host Norway Lake-Sunburg at 1:30 Sunday.

(At Wheaton) -- Zach Nelson hit a pair of solo homers and Tom DeBoer also homered as the Rockets improved to 17-7.

Brandon Larson went 4-for-4 for the Rockets. Nelson, DeBoer and Mike Jeseritz had two hits each.

Tyler Knott pitched six innings for the win, allowing three hits and three unearned runs. He walked two and struck out seven. DeBoer finished with three scoreless innings of one-hit relief.

Raymond gets a first-round bye in the playoffs and will host a game on Friday.

Litchfield amassed 15 hits, including Gabe Lecher's two-run homer in the first inning.

David Pennertz, who earned the win with three innings of scoreless relief, went 3-for-5 at the plate and drove in a run for the Blues. Tyler Puckett was 3-for-3 with a double. Lecher, Tony Gutormson and Joe Buschette had two hits each. Buschette also drove in two runs.
