DASSEL -- New signs and flashing beacons on U.S. Highway 12 next to the Dassel-Cokato High school have reduced speeds around the high school

Since the signs and flashing beacons were installed on Oct. 28., the Minnesota Department of Transportation has monitored performance and has made additional changes, including relocating the beacons for better coverage of the U.S. Highway 12 and Meeker County Road 100 intersection and also adjusted the duration of operating time of the beacons before and after school. These improvements have increased safety and decreased delays for the Highway 12 users.

The results of speed checks taken on Nov. 21 showed that speeds have been reduced by more than 20 mph within the school speed zone.

"These are exactly the type of results we were looking for" said Jon Henslin, District 8 Traffic Engineer.
