PAYNESVILLE -- Cory Nietfeld became Paynesville's all-time leading scorer and helped lead the Bulldogs to a 78-62 win over Minnewaska in West Central North Conference boys basketball action Friday.
Nietfeld, a 6-foot-3 senior, eclipsed the 1,286-point mark almost three minutes into the second half on a six-foot hook shot.
Nietfeld broke the record set by Don Liestman, who played for Paynesville from 1955-58. The Bulldogs' guard/forward scored 20 points Friday and now has 1,297.
On his historic night, Nietfeld started off with a bang, slamming home his first two points off a steal and finished with eight in the first half. He nearly collected a triple-double, recording nine rebounds and nine assists.
Ben Moser and Nathan Nietfeld also scored 20 points apiece. Colin Spooner added 13 points, including three 3-pointers.

Jordan Johnsrud's 14 points paced the Lakers. Jon Hoffmann added 13 points.
