SARTELL -- Willmar patiently picked apart the Sartell defense en route to a 69-56 win in Central Lakes Conference girls' basketball action Tuesday night.
It was the most points Willmar has scored this season.
Katie Holmgren led a three-pronged Cardinals' attack with 23 points. Willmar shot 54 percent from the field.
"We shot the ball great from the perimeter," said Willmar coach Brad Atchison. "Holmgren had her game of the year. Most of her baskets were from the elbow and beyond. She's playing with a lot more confidence."
Andrea Brown added 17 points and Laura Nielsen had 16 for Willmar, which pushed the tempo on the Sabres, resulting in 22 fouls and 33 free-throws attempts (the Cardinals made 22).

"There was a lot of transition stuff. It was a fun game to watch," Atchison said.
Holmgren also led the team with nine rebounds. Lisa Nielsen added seven and Laura Nielsen six.
The one negative Atchison saw was the 56 points the Cardinals gave up, including 18 to Sartell's Maggie Bryant.
"We flopped between our man and zone and didn't get comfortable in either," he said.
Willmar beat Sartell 59-27 on Dec. in Willmar.
