DASSEL -- A Dassel police officer was treated for ammonia exposure after an anhydrous tank began leaking ammonia Saturday night.

The Meeker County Sheriff's Department said the officer was doing a routine check at Crop Productions in Dassel when he walked into a cloud of anhydrous ammonia that was leaking from a 1,000-gallon tank.

Minnesota Highway 12 was closed to traffic for a short time while the tank valve was turned off. Dassel Rescue and the Dassel Fire Department assisted.

The officer was treated at the scene by Gold Cross Ambulance and later checked at the Hutchinson Hospital.
