APPLETON -- Minnesota Highway 7 from its intersection with Minnesota Highway 29 in Montevideo to the eastern edge of the community would be reconstructed in 2008.

The Minnesota Highway 40 bridge west of Milan would be replaced in 2014.

These are among the road projects being proposed as part of the 10-year Minnesota Department of Transportation plan for Region 6W, which includes the counties of Big Stone, Swift, Chippewa, Lac qui Parle and Yellow Medicine. An open house to view and comment on the draft report is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Appleton Civic Center, 323 W. Schlieman Ave., Appleton. It is offered by the Upper Minnesota Valley Regional Development Commission's Transportation Advisory Committee.

Anyone interested in offering comments can also provide them via e-mail or a telephone call. Among the list of projects, the draft plan calls for major reconstruction of Highway 7 between Clara City and Montevideo in 2014. The plan also calls for repairing the U.S. Highway 12 bridge deck near Kerkhoven in 2009 and improving state Highway 9 between Benson and Hancock in 2010. The bridges on Minnesota Highway 29 between Benson and Starbuck would be replaced in 2014.

The most costly road project proposed is an estimated $12 million concrete overlay of U.S. Highway 212 from First Street in Dawson to just west of the U.S. Highway 59 intersection. It is proposed for 2016.
