OLIVIA - Flags on public property in Olivia will be flown at half-staff today and Friday in honor of former mayor Mary Page, who died Monday at age 78.
The order was issued by Mayor Suzanne Hilgert after consultation with Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton’s office.
“Our community has suffered a great loss with the passing of Mary Page,” Hilgert said in a statement. “She served our area with honor and distinction. She gave freely of her talents and time to help those around her. Mary will be greatly missed.”
Page was a former mayor of Olivia, a former Renville County Commissioner, served on the University of Minnesota Board of Regents and was a former chairman of Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota.
Her funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday at Cross of Calvary Lutheran Church in Olivia.
