One dies in hayride accident in Chippewa County

MONTEVIDEO -- A birthday party hayride turned tragic in Chippewa County on Saturday when a man attempting to move from one hayrack to the second fell and was fatally run over by the second hayrack.

MONTEVIDEO - A birthday party hayride turned tragic in Chippewa County on Saturday when a man attempting to move from one hayrack to the second fell and was fatally run over by the second hayrack.
The victim’s identity was not released Sunday pending notification of family.
The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department reported that the incident occurred about 7:46 p.m. on 120th Avenue Northeast, one half mile south of Minnesota Highway 40 in Woods Township, about 16 miles west of Willmar.
A group of individuals were on a hayride as part of a birthday party. A tractor was pulling two hayracks that were joined together. The victim tried to make it from the first hayrack to the second. He fell between the two hay-racks and was run over by the second.
A Life Link helicopter was dispatched and landed at the scene. The victim was declared deceased at the scene.
The matter is under investigation by the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department.
The sheriff’s department was assisted by the Clara City Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Bonndock First Responders, Kerkhoven Ambulance, Montevideo Ambulance, Willmar Ambulance and paramedic staff, Life Link and Clara City Fire Department.
