Shooting accident Steven Slagter self inflicted gun shot leg wound airlifted
WILLMAR -- The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office said Steven Slagter, 30, of Prinsburg suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his lower right leg in a hunting accident Friday several miles southeast of Raymond.
Sgt. Steven Marquardt said Slagter was hunting pheasants with a family member and two friends in a waterfowl production area in Section 27 of Edwards Township.
Slagter was attempting to make his way through heavy cover when the gun went off. Responding emergency personnel found Slagter had been shot in the lower right leg. He had placed a tourniquet on the leg to control bleeding, said Marquardt.
Slagter was transported by North Air Care Ambulance to St. Cloud Hospital for treatment. Also assisting were Raymond Ambulance and Fire Department, Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad and Willmar Ambulance Service paramedics.
