One injured in semi crash in rural New London

NEW LONDON — A Villard man suffered non-life-threatening injuries when two semitractors collided Thursday morning in the intersection of U.S. Highway 71 and state Highway 9 near Sibley State Park in rural New London, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Bobby Lee Christian Funk, 40, was transported to Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar after his 2007 International semi hit another truck that entered the intersection. He was northbound on Highway 71 when he struck a 2013 Freightliner semi that was traveling eastbound on Highway 9 and had stopped at Highway 71 before entering the intersection. Driver Mihajlo Korceba, 21, of Tacoma, Washington, was not injured, according to the report.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts and neither of their airbags deployed, according to the State Patrol.

According to the report, Korceba suffered no injuries.

Road conditions were dry and alcohol was not involved, according to the State Patrol.

Lifelink, the Kandiyohi Sheriff's Office, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and New London Fire and Ambulance also responded to the accident reported at 9:40 a.m. Thursday.
