WILLMAR -- Central Minnesota Senior Care Inc. will assume day-to-day operations of Scandia Assisted Living in Willmar and Sunnyview Assisted Living in Atwater. Both residential assisted living facilities have been owned and operated by Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota.
The transition plan will be completed in May. Day-to-day support at both facilities is not expected to be affected. Central Minnesota Senior Care also plans to offer employment to the 27 workers affected by this change.
Residential assisted living has not been a core service for Lutheran Social Service, said Nancy Rosemore, senior director for LSS. "We decided that we need to focus our resources on other principal services," she said.
LSS opened the assisted living facilities in 1994 and 1998 to meet a growing demand for independent living for the elderly. Scandia and Sunnyview offer 24-hour support, meals, transportation and special-needs caretaking.
Central Minnesota Senior Care holds a Class A home care license and has been serving the Willmar area since 1994. It provides assisted living services to elderly people in eight cities, including Willmar, Benson, Glenwood, Lake Lillian, Prinsburg and Sunburg.

No other Lutheran Social Service programs in the Willmar area will be affected by this plan. LSS services for youths, families, persons with disabilities and the Senior Grandparent and Foster Grandparent programs also will continue without change.
