BIRD ISLAND -- Ordell Virgil Martin, 83, of Park Rapids, formerly of Bird Island, died Friday at Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids.
The service was Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Park Rapids. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Bird Island.
Arrangements are with Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids.
He was born Aug. 14, 1923, south of Clarkfield to Alfred and Emma (Nelson) Martin. He grew up and attended school in rural Clarkfield. He served in the armed forces during World War II and was stationed in Okinawa.

He married Virginia Elfering on Feb. 14, 1955, in Bird Island. They farmed in rural Clarkfield from 1955 to 1964. They moved to Starbuck in 1967. They later lived in the Benson and Murdock areas before moving to Bird Island. He worked for Trojan Seed Corn Company in Olivia from 1971 to 1982. They moved to rural Park Rapids in 1989 and into town in 1995.
He is survived by his wife; and one sister: Phyllis of Piedmont, S.D.
He was preceded in death by his sons: Robert and Douglas; five brothers and one sister.
