WILLMAR - Motorists on state Highway 23 Wednesday near Willmar will need to keep an eye out for detour signs.

A portion of Highway 23 will be closed as the Minnesota Department of Transportation sets the beams for the new Kandiyohi County Road 5 bridge overpass.

MnDOT said in a news release that traffic will be detoured in each direction while crews work on the bridge beams.

The project goal is to improve safety at the intersection of Highway 23 and Kandiyohi County 5, which has experienced a higher-than-expected crash rate.
