WILLMAR -- The owner of a garage that burned Sunday afternoon north of Willmar had been in the building working on a wood carving project just prior to the blaze.
According to Spicer Fire Department Chief Mike Holme, Barry Schanbachler had left the garage only about 10 minutes before firefighters were notified that a garage along 66th Avenue Northeast was fully engulfed.
The late afternoon fire destroyed the garage, tools and wood carvings and caused both interior and exterior damage to the nearby home, Holme said. The blaze also melted the vinyl siding on a neighboring garage.
No one was injured in the fire. Also responding were the Willmar and New London fire departments, Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office and Rescue Squad and Willmar Ambulance Service.
