BEMIDJI, Minn. -- A 38-year-old Park Rapids, Minn., man was killed in a collision with a semi-trailer Tuesday night south of Park Rapids.
The crash was reported at 7:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 71, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. A 1976 International semi was pulling out of the RDO potato plant onto Highway 71 heading north and soon after was struck by a 1989 Ford pickup, also traveling north. The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup did not have its lights on and the driver was not wearing a seat belt, according to the patrol. State patrol also said that alcohol was detected on the driver. The driver of the semi, a 58-year-old Park Rapids man, was not injured in the crash.
The Hubbard County Sheriff's Office assisted the patrol at the scene.
