SLAYTON -- The Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership is looking for regional partners to participate in a project to end homelessness in southwest Minnesota.
The project is being undertaken with the assistance of a major grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development and the Corporation for Supportive Housing.
A meeting for prospective partners, including mental health centers, community action agencies, housing developers, property managers, housing authorities, neighborhood groups, legislators and funding organizations, will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bagels & Brew in Marshall.
The event will also introduce the southwest region's local plan to end long-term homelessness. The plan will be open for public comment until Feb. 28. To view a draft of the plan, contact the Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership at 507-836-8673, ext. 409. This effort is in conjunction with the state of Minnesota's business plan to end long-term homelessness by 2010.
More than 3,000 people in Minnesota, including 40 to 50 who reside in southwestern Minnesota, will experience long-term homelessness this year. People considered long-term homeless are those who have been homeless for at least a year or have had several episodes of homelessness.
