GRANITE FALLS - A Lutheran pastor and his wife died in a one-vehicle accident on Minnesota Highway 67 south of Granite Falls on Friday.
The Rev. Lowell Asplund, 73, and Sharon Asplund, 74, both of Butterfield, were pronounced dead at the scene in an accident reported at 10:01 a.m. Lowell Asplund was driving a  2012 Dodge Durango northbound on Highway 67 when it left the roadway, went through a fence and collided with a tree, according to information from the Minnesota State Patrol.
The Yellow Medicine County Sheriffโ€™s Department, Upper Sioux Community Police Department, Echo Fire and Rescue and Granite Falls Ambulance assisted the Minnesota State Patrol.
Asplund was serving as pastor at First Lutheran/Long Lake Lutheran Churches of Butterfield and Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Darfur, according to published reports.
