PAYNESVILLE -- The Paynesville City Council approved a resolution Wednesday to seek a small cities grant through the Stearns County Housing and Redevelopment Authority.
The council also approved matching funds of $74,700 that are required for the grant application, according to Renee Eckerly, city administrator.
The city will find out in mid-March if it will receive $835,000 from a federal revolving loan fund to rehabilitate 18 single-family homes, 13 rental units and 20 commercial businesses.
The council also approved three proposals from Bolton and Menk Engineering. The first was a $5,000 comprehensive park plan to examine the current and future city parks, draw up concept plans and survey the community to find out what citizens would like in the city parks.
The second was a $750 proposal to update the city's outdated sewer use ordinance, Eckerly said.

The third is a $1,000 proposal to do a topographical survey of an area along the Koronis Trail near the high school parking lot. The intention is to use county grant money to turn the area into a rain garden.
The school's FFA students have agreed to maintain the garden. The council also heard a report on the city's liquor store. The city's gross profits have been flat or declining since 2002 and the city has been transferring out more funds than the store is making per year, Eckerly said. The council has set a work session for Monday, and discussion regarding the liquor store issues is on the agenda for that session, Eckerly added.
