Pennock native Roisum honored by Baseball Coaches Association

GLENCOE -- Dennis Roisum, a 1962 Kerkhoven graduate, was recently honored by the Minnesota High School Baseball Coaches Association. The rural Pennock native retired from coaching in 2001 after 25 years as a head coach at Hector and Glencoe.

GLENCOE -- Dennis Roisum, a 1962 Kerkhoven graduate, was recently honored by the Minnesota High School Baseball Coaches Association. The rural Pennock native retired from coaching in 2001 after 25 years as a head coach at Hector and Glencoe.

Roisum was presented with the 42nd annual Jim Dimick/Retired Coaches Award at the MHSBC Hall of Fame Program Oct. 29 at the Four Points Sheraton, Minneapolis.

After playing shortstop at St. Cloud State, he taught one year at Sartell, 11 at Hector and 21 at Glencoe. He was a head coach at Hector for seven years and 18 at Glencoe, later Glencoe-Silver Lake, accumulating over 300 coaching victories.

In his last seven seasons, his Glencoe-Silver Lake Panthers won four Wright County Conference titles, finished second twice and third the other time.

Roisum, 61, remains a familiar figure on area diamonds umpiring high school, community college American Legion and amateur baseball. He started umpiring in 1980 with town team.

He and his wife Linda have two children and six grandchildren.
