WILLMAR -- Peter Albert Boonstra, 82, of Alexandria and formerly of Willmar, died Friday at St. Cloud Hospital.
The service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Burial will be in the Cloverleaf Memorial Cemetery. American Legion Post 167 of Willmar will provide military honors.
Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association.
He was born April 18, 1925, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Peter and Helen (Ruggenburg) Boonstra. He grew up and received his education in Oskaloosa and Mason City, Iowa. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at age 16 and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

He married Mary Morrison on May 14, 1949, and they lived in Oskaloosa and later Mason City. He worked as a retail sales manager for Osco Drug, Lewis Drug and Thrifty White Drug in numerous cities.
In 1975, they moved to Willmar where he was a district manager for Thrifty White Drug. He retired in the mid-1980s. In August 2007, they moved to Windmill Ponds Assisted Living in Alexandria. He was a former member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife; one son: Jon (and Connie) Boonstra of Buffalo; one daughter: Susan (and Stuart) Mackechney of Garfield; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister: Barbara (and Jack) Judy of Laguna Niguel, Calif.
He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
