BENSON -- Swift County Commissioner Pete Peterson of rural Benson is recovering from injuries suffered in a hunting and automobile accident.
According to Swift County Auditor Byron Giese, Peterson is up and walking around. He was moved out of intensive care last week at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. He has a meeting with doctors next week to determine when he can be moved back to Benson to continue his therapy and rehabilitation.
Peterson was critically injured Nov. 11 in a bizarre chain of events. He cut himself while gutting a deer, attempted to drive himself to the Swift County-Benson Hospital but lost consciousness, causing his truck to run off the highway and into a tree. Doctors at Hennepin County Medical Center performed surgery to remove a portion of his skull to alleviate pressure from swelling due to a head injury.
