MINNEAPOLIS -- Phillip Andrew Nelson, 80, of Minneapolis, formerly of Litchfield, died Friday at Lakeview Ranch in Dassel.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Arrangements are with Hantge Funeral Chapel in Darwin.
He was born on June 6, 1925, in Litchfield, to Emil and Emma (Mortenson) Nelson. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1943. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and served during World War II. He received a purple heart and was honorably discharged in 1946.

He married Marilyn Cervin on Sept. 18, 1949, in Litchfield. They lived in Litchfield.
He married Adalaide Lunderby on Jan. 26, 1980, in Crystal. They lived in Litchfield and moved to Brooklyn Center. Adelaide died in 2001. He worked at the First District Association in Litchfield for 31 years. He moved to Lakeview Ranch in Dassel in 2005.
He was a member of the Teamsters and Hope Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.
He is survived by his children: Judy (and John) Dennison of Memphis, Tenn., Janice (and John) Wall of Litchfield, Jill Nelson of Brooklyn Park, Brad (and Vicky) Nelson of Minneapolis, Bruce (and Diane) Nelson of Golden Valley; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and siblings: Robert (and Gigi) Nelson of Fort Myers, Fla., Donna (and George) Peterson of Huron, S.D., and Margaret Osterberg of Edina.
He was preceded in death by his wife; and one infant brother.
