WAHPETON, N.D. -- Phyllis Celeste Gripentrog, 88, of Wahpeton, N.D., died Monday at St. Francis Healthcare Campus-Hospital in Breckenridge.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Evergreen United Methodist Church in Wahpeton. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Wahpeton.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, with prayer service at 7 p.m., at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, and for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

She was born April 11, 1919, in rural Regal in Kandiyohi County to John and Mathilda (Schwartz) Manz. She went to school in Regal and Paynesville.

She married Donald Gripentrog on June 15, 1939, in Paynesville. They moved to Menomonie, Wis., Paynesville and then they moved to Wahpeton. She operated the Chahinkapa Park Souvenir Store with her family for three years until it closed. She worked at the Wahpeton Circle of Nations School as an instructor in music for five years. Donald died in 1999. She entered St. Francis Nursing Home in Breckenridge in May.

She was a member of Evergreen United Methodist Church. She was a past member of Aulde Fortnightly Club, past organist at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Wahpeton and past chairman and worker for the Red Cross Bloodmobile.

She is survived by four sons: Jon (and LeAnn) Griepentrog of Willmar, Mitchell (and Caroyln) Gripentrog of Willmar, David (and LaRae) Gripentrog of Wahpeton, Clark (and Delaura) Gripentrog of Wahpeton; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Elaine Newhouse of Sherwood,

She was preceded in death by her husband and four sisters, including one in infancy.
