WATSON -- Phyllis Marie Peterson, 85, of Starbuck, formerly of Watson, died Oct. 17 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Watson Lutheran Church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Arrangements are with Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

She was born March 9, 1921, in Tunsberg Township, Chippewa County, to Aane and Dolores (Russell) Torgerson. She graduated from Montevideo High School in 1940 and attended teacher's training at St. Cloud State Teacher's College. She taught school in Spicer for two years and then moved to Seattle to work in the shipyards and later at Boeing-Lockheed in Santa Monica, Calif. She returned to Watson and taught school in 1950-51. She began teaching in Milan in 1952 and also served as the elementary principal.

She married Charles "Pete" Petersen in August of 1955. They moved to Napa, Calif., and taught school in the early 1960s. He died in 1978.

She married Ira Peterson in 1986. Ira died in 1993. She moved to Starbuck in 2001 and to the Minnewaska Lutheran Home this past June.

She volunteered with Community Projects in Napa, Calif., for several years. She was a member of Holmes City Lutheran Church.

She is survived by four brothers: Robert (and Virginia) Torgerson of Starbuck, David (and Lois) Torgerson of Clinton, John Paul (and Mary Ann) Torgerson of Coon Rapids, Lowell Torgerson of Brainerd; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both husbands, one brother and one sister.
