LITCHFIELD -- Thomas Warren Pitts, 27, of Litchfield, was arraigned Wednesday in Meeker County District Court on felony charges stemming from an armed standoff with sheriff's deputies on Tuesday.

According to Meeker County Sheriff Mike Hirman, Pitts is charged with second-degree assault with a weapon, for pointing a shotgun at a deputy, and for being a felon in possession of a weapon. He was arrested on a warrant for failing to register as a sex offender in Minnesota. He has two prior felony sex convictions in Wisconsin.

Pitts is being held in the county jail on $100,000 unconditional bail.

The standoff started when sheriff's deputies learned that Pitts was at a home along the 22200 block of 640th Avenue, southeast of Litchfield. Deputies arrived at the home, south and east of Litchfield, to find Pitts barricaded into the home with a 20-gauge shotgun. Negotiations began and eventually Pitts surrendered the gun and was taken into custody.
