WILLMAR -- Willmar Police and Kandiyohi County Sheriff's deputies trained Wednesday in emergency situations, including stand offs and hostage situations.

The two departments used the fairgrounds and several other locations around to the county to hold practice drills.

The training is done in as realistic fashion as possible, according to Willmar Police officer Marilee Dorn, and included the use of police radios.

The departments train every two to four months. With some training, officers and deputies won't know what kind of events they will be responding too, Dorn said.

The drill plans aren't made public prior to the training dates, Dorn said.
